Finishing up my contract beginning of September, and overnighting in Broome before flying out next day...I booked a sunset camel ride (I know this wouldn't be for everyone). Honestly, it was wonderful.
The walk to the camels along the beach felt like home at Tahunanui beach. It was a stunning afternoon, with a light breeze off the water.
My camel was named William. I was quite worried about how my hips were going to go with having to be an hour in the saddle! Hip flexors are not the best (have started stretching since) 😆
The guides get to be with the camels for a year, stay on the farm, look after them, train, and really get to know each other. You can see these animals are very quiet and comfortable, and trust their guides.
There is a pecking order between camels and the leader is always the lead, then all others behind are in the same order every time...otherwise there is trouble apparently! They are all named and have their own personalities and quirks.
The ride was a slow weaving left and right to get photos and video of all different angles. You swayed gently in the saddle. Quiet conversation with the guides as they walked back and forth with us. And the sunset itself was stunning; shadows of us on the sand very special.
So pleased I experienced this 😌
